Royal Schiphol Group (RSG) has a sustainability strategy and shared recent developments and results with Milieudefensie (update October 2, 2025).
The report shows that Royal Schiphol Group is strongly committed to reducing CO\u2082 emissions and fostering collaboration within the aviation sector. The goal: by 2030, all airports operated by Royal Schiphol Group will be emission-free and waste-free, and by 2050, the aviation sector will be net zero.<\/p>\n
Key points of the sustainability plan:<\/strong><\/p>\n Royal Schiphol Group is on track to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions, partly through the use of heating and cooling systems instead of gas. The airports run on Dutch wind and solar energy.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Together with partners, Royal Schiphol Group is working towards net-zero value chain emissions by 2050, focusing on more sustainable fuels (SAF), electrification, and circular construction. Innovative projects\u2014such as emission-free ground operations and the expansion of charging infrastructure\u2014are accelerating the transition.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Royal Schiphol Group advocates for extending the EU ETS (European Union Emissions Trading System) to intercontinental flights and allocating (part of) the revenue from aviation taxes to further stimulate sustainable aviation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Royal Schiphol Group\u2019s sustainability plan was established in 2018. The plan outlines the objectives and actions for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Eindhoven Airport, Rotterdam The Hague Airport, and Lelystad Airport. New insights are incorporated annually in an update of the sustainability plan. Together, these pillars form the foundation for a sustainable airport and a healthy living environment.<\/p>\n We aim to power all processes, vehicles, and buildings at the airport entirely with sustainable energy and energy carriers.<\/p>\n Lelystad Airport seeks to strengthen the region by creating a network where living, working, and learning are interconnected and mutually reinforcing.<\/p>\n Our ambition focuses on encouraging the sustainability of mobility, both on the ground and in the air. We aim to lead the way by facilitating electric flight, replacing our ground fleet with electric or hydrogen-powered alternatives, and offering lower-emission variants of aviation fuels.<\/p>\n We are developing and building Lelystad Airport in a more climate-resilient way by phasing out gas, promoting the reuse of materials, and taking climate change into account during design processes.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n
