Safety comes first, which is why it is important for Air Traffic Control <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvnl.nl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(LVNL)<\/a> to have excellent visibility across the entire airport, both on the ground and in the air.<\/p>\n<p>A special feature of the control tower at Lelystad Airport is that the construction of the original control tower has been preserved. The dome of the tower was taken off temporarily, and three floors were placed on top of the current tower, after which the dome was placed back on the elevated tower. This provided a sustainable solution in raising the tower.<\/p>\n<p>The striking red-and-white tower was finally returned to service in July 2018. A mobile control tower was used during the refurbishment.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"et_pb_module et_d4_element et_pb_video text_text_color=\"#000000\" text_font_size=\"13pt\" text_line_height=\"31px\" global_colors_info=\"{}\"]<\/p><p><strong>Luchtverkeersleiders van Luchtverkeersleiding Nederland (LVNL) zijn de ogen en oren van de piloten in de cockpit. Ze begeleiden vanuit de verkeerstoren vliegtuigen in het luchtruim en op het vliegveld. Zo houden ze voor het vliegverkeer de start- en landingsbaan vrij op de grond, zodat piloten veilig kunnen landen en ze sturen vliegtuigen de goede kant op.<\/strong><\/p><p>Op Lelystad Airport is de verkeerstoren in 2017 opgehoogd van 9 naar 22,4 meter, zodat grotere (narrow-body) vliegtuigen, onder begeleiding van de luchtverkeersleiders, veilig kunnen opstijgen en landen. Veiligheid staat voorop en daarom is het belangrijk dat de Luchtverkeersleiding uitstekend zicht heeft over het gehele luchthaven, zowel op de grond als in de lucht.<\/p><p>Bijzonder aan de verkeerstoren van Lelystad Airport is dat de constructie van de originele verkeerstoren behouden is gebleven. De koepel van de toren is er tijdelijk af gehaald en er zijn drie verdiepingen op de huidige toren geplaatst. Daarmee is een duurzame oplossing gevonden in het ophogen van de toren.\u00a0<\/p><p>De opvallende verhoogde rood-witte toren werd uiteindelijk in juli 2018 terug in gebruik genomen.
